Blog Post #7: Successes and Failures

One of my successes of this past semester is my volleyball team and I making it to the NCAA volleyball national tournament. That was one of our goals at the beginning of preseason was to make the tournament and to finish in the top eight in conference as well. Being involved in the tournament has really opened my eyes to as how much potential we have as a young team considering we have no seniors this year on the team. Even though we lost the first game in the tournament it was a learning experience, and was a memorable experience to be apart of. The one failure that I am least proud of was no doing as good as I could of in biology this year. I got two 77's on both my tests, and I feel that if I would have studied more and stayed for tutoring I would have received better grades on both my tests. I have not put in enough effort this semester for biology, and I regret not studying more because in the end it would have benefited me. For the final though I hopefully will make all of it up, and finish with a good grade at the end of semester.

Blog #6 What I look forward to about Thanksgiving?

The thing I look forward to most about Thanksgiving is going to my roommates house for a real home cooked dinner. I want to be able to sleep in, and not have to worry about having homework to do or having a test that week. I want to be able to enjoy the time off, and meet my roommates family for the first time. It will be a new experience for me because my roommate lives on Long Island and she said she would take me to New York City one day throughout the break. I can't wait because I have never been to New York City before, and I'm looking forward to visiting time time square and all the places you can visit when you go to New York. This break is going to be exciting and stress free for me and I can't wait!

Blog #6 How would you "stretch" yourself

There are many ways that I plan to stretch myself, and I have already had the opportunity to stretch myself here because at the end of preseason for volleyball I hurt my shoulder. I was out for six weeks, and I just was cleared from my doctor to play about four weeks ago. I found out that I have something called Buford's Complex which is a when your shoulder is composed of absent anterosuperior labrum in association with thickened middle glenohumeral ligament. So in simpler terms I have no cushion in my ball in socket when my shoulder moves or rotates. It was really hard to accept the fact that I would be out for so long because I have never been severely hurt like that before. It was even harder for me to realize that every time I would play volleyball now my shoulder would be in pain. So I put my foot down, and even through all the pain I pushed through and gave it everything to become the player I was when I was in preseason. I am almost back to the player I was, but it wasn't me just going to practice I went to the bubble and worked out extra when I had time. I wanted to beat out the other outside hitters who had taken my spot after I got hurt. I'm still working on it, and my goal is before season ends I will be on the starting lineup. Another way I'm stretching myself is I'm taking two sciences classes instead of like many other freshman who are just taking one. Having two science classes is really difficult because there is so much information and both my classes have the same material at different times so it is really hard to keep track with. I want to keep stretching myself in school and in volleyball because I know it will make me a better person and teach me that with perseverance and dedication good things will happen, and that I should never give up.

Blog #5: The one person I would meet!

The one person that I would want to meet would be Misty May-Treanor because she is a three time Olympic Gold Medalist for beach volleyball, and she has impacted the sport of volleyball in a way that no player has. What makes her so inspiring is that she isn't very tall or jumps incredibly high she is just a smart player who knows how to score a point on the court. She inspires people like me to work harder than all of my teammates because even though you are short that doesn't mean you can't make a name for yourself, and prove to people that you are and can be an amazing player. Also that you don't have to be six foot two or have a forty inch vertical to play in the front row. She inspires me to become a better volleyball player every single day.
